A 5-member European Parliament delegation will visit Bangladesh from September 16-18 to assess reforms and human rights, the EU mission in Dhaka said.

The team comprises Human Rights Subcommittee Chair Mounir Satouri (Greens/EFA, France), Isabel Wiseler-Lima (EPP, Luxembourg), Arkadiusz Mularczyk (ECR, Poland), Urmas Paet (Renew Europe, Estonia) and Catarina Vieira (Greens/EFA, Netherlands). They will meet interim government officials, civil society, NGOs, labour leaders and multilateral bodies, besides visiting Rohingya camps.

Following the 2024 protest crackdown and Sheikh Hasina’s ouster, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus is leading an interim government that has launched reforms in the electoral system, judiciary and other institutions. EU and Bangladesh have also resumed talks on a new Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.

The delegation “will aim at learning more about the work of the interim government in promoting good governance and advancing human rights, including international labour standards, and to discuss the EU-Bangladesh partnership,” the statement said.
