The US Chamber of Commerce has said, the move to end extension of H-1B visas would be bad policy and is contrary to the goals of a merit-based immigration system. US Chamber of Commerce spokesperson said, the move would harm American business, economy, and the country.

The Trump administration is planning to end the extension of H-1B visas that could result in self-deportation of around 7 lakh Indians.

Department of Homeland Security is drafting the proposal to curb the extensions which was part of President Donald Trump’s ‘Buy American, Hire American’ initiative’.

The H-1B programme offers temporary US visas that allow companies to hire highly skilled foreign professionals working in areas with shortages of qualified American workers.
