The Election Commission is likely to announce the dates for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls today. The commission will hold a press conference in New Delhi Vigyan Bahavan this evening to announce the poll schedule.

The term of the present Lok Sabha ends on the 3rd of June. The model code of conduct will come into force once the election commission announces the poll schedule.

In 2014, the Commission had announced the schedule on 5th of March to hold the nine-phase election.

Out of 543 seats in the 16th Lok Sabha, BJP has 268 members at present followed by Congress which has 45 and AIADMK, which has 37. Trinamool Congress has 34 members whereas BJD has 18.

Twenty-two seats are lying vacant as on 6th February this year.
