Eid-ul-Zuha, the festival of sacrifice, is being celebrated with traditional gaiety and devotion in different parts of the country today. The faithfuls will offer Eid prayers in Eidgahs and mosques.
President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have greeted people on the occasion of Id-ul- Zuha. In a message, Mr Mukherjee said, let this festival be an occasion to share happiness and resources with the lesser privileged, suffering and in need. The President said, may Id-ul-Zuha bring all the communities and regions of India together in a celebration of its composite civilization.
In his message, the Vice President said that Id-ul-Zuha symbolises the spirit of sacrifice, sympathy and brotherhood in society. Mr Ansari said, the festival inspires mankind to inculcate values of truthfulness and compassion in their lives.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the Muslim community across the world on the occasion of Id-ul-Zuha. In his message, Mr Modi conveyed his warm greetings and wishes to the Muslim community across the globe.
In Uttar Pradesh, elaborate security arrangements have been made in major cities including Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Meerut, Allahabad and Bareilly. AIR correspondent reports security has been beefed up near the Eidgahs and main mosques where people are thronging to offer special Namaz.
