Eid-ul-Azha, the festival of sacrifice was celebrated with religious fervour and due reverence across India on Sunday. The faithful offered Eid namaaz or prayers in Eidgahs and mosques this morning. Later they exchanged Eid greetings.
In Delhi, main congregations were held at Jama Masjid, Fatehpuri Mosque and Shahi Eidgah. Speaking on the occasion, the Imams,who led the prayers appealed to people to maintain peace and harmony and prayed for the peace and progress of the country.
Eid-ul-Azha is celebrated to commemorate the willingness of Hazrat Ibrahim to sacrifice his only son in obedience of God’s command.
Eid-ul-Adha is being celebrated with fervor across Hyderabad on Sunday.
Scores of Muslims attended the Eid congregational prayers at various Eidgahs and mosques across the city despite rains. The major congregations were witnessed at Mir Alam Eidgah, Qadeem (old) Eidgah Madannapet, Mecca Masjid, Hockey Grounds at Masab Tank etc.
Khateeb of Mecca Masjid Maulana Hafeez Rizwan Qureshi led the Eid ul Adha prayers at the Mir Alam Eidgah. Several important personalities of the community and senior officials of the minority welfare department attended the prayers.
Senior police officials were present here to supervise the security arrangements. The ‘namazis’ were seen carrying their own prayer mats and plastic sheets to accommodate themselves on the soggy grounds at the 150 year 0ld Eidgah considered the biggest in the city.
The sale of sheep, ram, goats and cattle is continuing in the city with people rushing to make last minute purchases to sacrifice the animal. The Eid will be celebrated till Tuesday. A mad rush for butchers is seen in the city, a huge number of the butchers have descended in the city from adjoining districts of Vikarabad, Mahabubnagar, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda and Sanga Reddy to cash upon the demand.
Reports of Eid prayers congregations have also come in from other parts of the country.
President, Vice President, PM extend greetings on eve of Eid-uz-Zuha
President Ram Nath Kovind has greeted fellow citizens on the eve of Eid-uz-Zuha. In his message, the President said, that the festival of Eid-uz-Zuha is a symbol of sacrifice and service to the humanity.
He said, this festival inspires people to follow the path of self-sacrifice shown by Hazrat Ibrahim. On this occasion, the President called upon people to rededicate themselves to the service of mankind and work for the prosperity and development of the nation.
Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu extended his warm greetings to the people of the country on the eve of auspicious occasion of ‘Id-uz-Zuha’. In a message, Mr. Naidu said that Id-ul-Zuha epitomises the spirit of sacrifice and devotion to God and it is an occasion to share and care and show compassion towards the needy and poor.
He expressed hope that festival would strengthen the spirit of unity and brotherhood in society by bringing people closer to one another. The Vice President wished that the noble ideals associated with Id-ul-Zuha would enrich lives of people with peace and harmony, and bring prosperity to the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the nation on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. He said this festival inspire to work towards furthering the spirit of collective well-being and prosperity for the good of humankind.
