Eid Ul Fitr was celebrated across India with traditional fervour and gaiety on Wednesday. The festival marks the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan.

Muslims faithful offered prayers at Eidgahs and various mosques. Special Prayers, feasts and mutual exchange of Eid greetings mark the celebrations.

Eid-ul-Fitr is Arabic word meaning “festival of breaking of the fast.” The festival marks the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to sunset during the holy Ramadan.

On the Eid day morning, Muslims gather at mosques and prayer venues to perform Eid prayers and greet each other. The festival is celebrated by visiting friends and relatives, hosting food parties and sharing sweets. Children not only get new clothes and shoes, but also receive cash gifts called “Salami” from their elders, relatives and well-wishers.

In Uttar Pradesh, Eid-Ul-Fitr, the festival of love and joy, is being celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety. People offered special prayers at various mosques this morning. The administration has made elaborate arrangements of cleanliness and security around the main mosques in Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Meerut and other cities.

Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the culmination of the Muslim holy month of Ramzan, is being celebrated across the Madhya Pradesh today. Elaborate security arrangement has been made by the police across the state.

In the National Capital, Eid congregations are being held at Jama Masjid, Fatehpuri Masjid, Eidgah and various mosques.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have greeted the people on the occasion.

All Chief Ministers, Governors and leaders of several political parties extended greetings to people on the occasion.
