Congress criticizes the move

AMN /

The Enforcement Directorate may register a complaint of money laundering in the National Herald case against Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi. The ED’s decision comes weeks after the Department of Revenue had sought legal opinion on the noting of a joint director, who was looking into the case earlier that a Prevention of Money Laundering Act case cannot be made out as there is no predicate offence against the two Congress leaders. Sources said, the legal opinion is in favour of filing of a case against them.

Reacting to media query, the Congress said, the government is indulging in political vendetta. Party Spokesperson, Shakeel Ahmed alleged that the Finance Ministry is under pressure to reopen the National Herald case. He said, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who had earlier spoken about closure of files should explain why the files are being opened and notice issued.
