A group of Barhamins in Kerala has demanded the government to include them in minority group.Yogaksehama Sabha, an organisation of Brahmin communities in state has asked the Central Government t revise the minority reservation quota on a state-level basis in the wake of the govt declaring a caste and religion-based census.

Akkeeraman K. Bhattathirippad, head of the Sabha, also demanded minority status for brahmin community. “Taking into account the peculiar social condition in the state, brahmins are a minority here. At the same time, those who are minority at the all-India level, enjoy all the benefits of reservation and are dominant in the state. While they get all the benefits under the reservation system, brahmins are still in a pathetic condition. Brahmin community should be considered a minority on the basis of the caste-based census,” he said.
