An Election Commission team has arrived in Guwahati on Monday to take stock of poll preparedness. Official sources said that the full bench Commission led by Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi will hold meeting with different stake holders.
They will also meet Commissioners and SPs of 18 districts.
Meanwhile, Monday is the last date for withdrawal of nominations for the first phase of polls. 566 nomination papers were found vaild for the first phase. Among them, 40 were women candidates.
Chief Minister and Congress leader Tarun Gogoi, former Union minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar and PWD minister Ajanta Neog are in the fray in this phase.
On the other hand , state BJP President and party’s Sarbanand Sonowal, M P Kamakhya Prasad Tasha along with Asom Gana Parishad President Atul Bora’s political fate will also be decided in the first phase.
The first phase of polls will be held on 4th of April in 65 seats.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Siddhartha Bhattacharya and Himanta Biswa Sarma have submitted nomination papers on Monday for the second phase of election.
The second phase of polls will be held on 11th of April in 61 seats.
