The Election Commission has censured the AIADMK over its promises made in its poll manifesto during Tamil Nadu Assembly elections which was held this year. In its order to AIADMK Chief J Jayalalithaa, the Commission said, her party’s election manifesto gave no rationale to meet financial requirements for fulfilling poll promises like waiver of all form loans and free distribution of washing machines.

Terming the AIADMK reply as unsatisfactory, the poll body also advised the ruling party in the state to be more circumspect and adhere to the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct about the manifesto in future. In a similar stricture to DMK, the Election Commission asked the party to be more circumspect.

In its order to the DMK President M Karunanidhi, the Commission said, the party has given the rationale and ways to meet the poll promises in the reply of its notice, but it should have been given while issuing the manifestos.
