Election Commission has canceled the Anantnag Lok Sabha bypoll, which was scheduled on 25th of this month and commission said, the situation is not feasible to hold free and fair elections.

Earlier, the parliamentary seat was to go to polls on 12th of last month which were postponed due to violence during the polling for Srinagar Lok Sabha seat in which eight people were killed.

The commission said, it will hold the election in due course for the Lok Sabha seat when the situation is conducive for holding free and fare election. The commission in its order said, the Home Ministry had expressed his inability to provide adequate number of the security personnel for polling duty on short notice.

The commission also said, that the state government had also requested for deferring the poll due to disturbed law and order situation in the state.
