A dust storm, with a wind speed of 70 kilometres per hour, hit the national capital Delhi and adjoining areas of NCR last night followed by a squall, bringing down the temperature after a hot day.IMD officials said there was a high-velocity dust storm affecting life in several parts of Delhi.
Dust storms also hit Chandigarh and parts of Punjab and Haryana this evening with many residents preferring to stay indoors in view of the IMD forecasting. There were reports of power supply getting disrupted at some places in the states.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning about weather condition over some parts of north west India for today and tomorrow.
Head of Services of IMD, Dr M Mohapatra said, due to the impact of western disturbance, thunderstorm accompanied with squalls and hail is likely to occur over Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Delhi during the period. He said, Haryana and Delhi may experience high intensity of thunderstorm tomorrow. Mr Mohapatra said, the weather condition will improve in north west India from Wednesday onwards.
