Despite stern action by Govt doctors not ready to budge

With the strike by more than 10,000 in-service doctors’ in Rajasthan continued for the second day today, health services have badly affected in the state.
Resident doctors of all government medical colleges have also extended their support to in-service doctors and announced that they would join the strike on Monday.
Police have arrested 64 doctors in different districts under the Rajasthan Essential Services Maintenance Act. 17 of them have been sent to judicial custody. Several other doctors have gone underground to escape arrest. The doctors were on a strike last month in connection with their 33 demands.
Earlier this month, an agreement was reached between the doctors association and the government and they returned back to the work. The doctors association has now accused the government for not complying with the agreement.
Following the arrests, resident doctors of all government medical colleges extended their support to in-service doctors and announced that they would join the strike on Monday. This would directly affect hospitals attached to government-run medical colleges.
However, few doctors have joined their duties after strict action by the government. The Health Minister Kali Charan Saraf said that doctors’ strike is totally illegal and government will deal with strictly. The Rajasthan High Court has already been termed the doctors’ strike illegal.
