pm-newPrime Minister Narendra Modi today said that development of the North East region is a top priority for his government with special focus on connectivity and infrastructure.

He was addressing the centenary celebrations of the Bharat Sevashram Sangha in Shillong through video conferencing today.

Mr Modi added that his government is also improving the electricity situation in the North East and trying to bring even more tourists to the region.

The Prime Minister said, he is stressing on the development of the region as there has not been balanced development there.

He said his government is making efforts to make North East the gateway to South East Asia.

The Prime Minister also gave a call to work towards a Clean India and a Clean Northeast. He said, Gangtok is only city from North East among top 100 in Swachh Survekshan 2017.

Saying that this year marks 100 years of the Champaran Satyagraha, Mr Modi pointed out that Mahatma Gandhi emphasised on Swachhata along with Satyagraha.

Mr Modi said, centenary celebrations are unique moments to remember the good work of the Bharat Sevashram Sangha. He expressed his best wishes to the organisation for taking the nation forward through labour and service.

Mr Modi said, BSS teams have served people with great dedication during several natural disasters and their good work is widely remembered.

The Prime Minister said, some people tried to create a false perception that spirituality is different from service, but Bharat Sevashram Sangha proved them wrong.

He said, Swami Pranavananda, who founded the organisation, never liked social divisions and inequalities and achieved societal development through devotion and people’s empowerment.
