Both Houses of Parliament witness adjournments today as pandemonium continued over demonetisation issue, forcing Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha to adjourn till 2 pm.
When the Rajya Sabha reassembled at noon after the first adjournment, the same situation continued. Opposition members raised slogans which were countered by some of the members in the treasury benches. Chairman Hamid Ansari adjourned the House till 2 P.M.
Earlier, when the House met for the day, opposition alleged, more than 100 people have died so far in the aftermath of demonetization since November 8th.
Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu charged the Opposition with making it a usual practice to raise the issue, even as a structured debate has already been initiated. He said November 8th will remain a historic day in India.
Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said many marriages have been disrupted due to demonetization and people could not purchase even medicines due to cash crunch. As the din continued, the House was adjourned till noon.
In the Lok Sabha, the Opposition members from the Congress, the TMC and the Left demanded discussion on demonetization under provisions entailing voting and trooped into the well of the House.
Speaker Sumitra Mahajan appealed to the agitating members to allow the House to take up its business. Amidst the din, Question Hour continued for about half an hour. Later, the house was adjourned till 2 PM.
