Delhi today recorded the coldest day of the season with the mercury dipping to 1.1 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature was recorded six notches below the season’s average. The city continues to reel under intense cold wave conditions.

Delhi recorded the lowest temperature in 14 years on 1 January, with the mercury dropping to 1.1 degree Celsius. “Very dense” fog lowered visibility to “zero” metres affecting traffic movement, on the New Year’s Day.

The lowest temperature was last recorded in 2006 at 0.2 degree Celsius. Last year, the temperature had dropped as low as 2.4 degree Celsius in January, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.

India Metrological Department has forecast partly cloudy sky for the day. The maximum temperature will hover around 19 degrees Celsius. A thick layer of fog also enveloped Delhi and NCR.
