Under the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the state government today launched a massive cleanliness drive across 28 ghats and waterfront sites of the Yamuna River.

The campaign covered several prominent locations, including Chilla Village Ghat, Nizamuddin Ghat, Sonia Vihar, and Kalindi Kunj. The initiative saw active participation from public representatives, government officials, over 500 social and voluntary organizations, thousands of volunteers, and local residents.

While offering voluntary labor (shramdaan) at the Geeta Colony Ghat, Mrs. Gupta emphasized that the Yamuna is not merely a river but a symbol of faith, culture, and the lifeline of the city. She stated that restoring the Yamuna to its clean and pristine form is a shared responsibility of both the Delhi government and society.

The Chief Minister also announced that projects worth over 1,000 crore rupees have been approved for the rejuvenation of the Yamuna. Mrs. Gupta informed that under the AMRUT scheme, 12 new decentralized wastewater treatment systems are being installed in the Najafgarh area at a cost of 860 crore rupees to prevent untreated waste water from flowing into the river.
