Introduces GPS based vehicle navigational system for better aircraft guidance
Re-commissioning of T2 eases Aircraft and Passenger handling at T1

GMR Group led Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) along with Air Traffic Control (ATC) and India Meteorological Department (IMD) today announced that the preparedness for the Fog season at Delhi Airport.
The airport operator has made robust arrangements to minimize inconvenience to passengers and ensure continuity of flight operations during Low Visibility Period. A new GPS based navigational system for airside vehicles has been introduced to enhance operational efficiency.
Speaking on the fog preparedness DIAL CEO, Mr. I Prabhakara Rao said, “Delhi Fog is a prime example of synergy among Air Traffic Controllers, Airlines, Ground Handlers, Meteorological Department and Airport staff. At an operational level it talks volumes of our capabilities of Operational Readiness, Emergency preparedness and Crises response.”
He added, “The three runways 28, 29 and 11 at the IGI Airport are certified for CAT III B operations, which would allow landing of the compliant aircrafts with visibility as low as 50 meters. The re-commissioning of Terminal 2 (T2) will serve as a big help for Terminal 1 (T1) as it has offloaded passenger and aircraft traffic at T1. The newly introduced GPS based navigational system for Follow-Me vehicles will help in effective guidance of the Aircraft during dense fog.”
Speaking on the operational readiness, Mr. AK Bhardwaj General Manager, Air Traffic Management (ATM)-ATC said, “The Low Visibility Procedures (LVP) for handling Air Traffic during fog have been promulgated for all the Air Traffic Controllers at IGI Airport. In addition, an enhanced version for Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) during fog has been put in place with the active involvement of all the stakeholders, including airlines and airport operator, DIAL. These measures improve predictability of flight operations and hence facilitate the travelling passengers during fog.”
The facilities available at T3, T2 and T1D during this fog season are aimed providing the passengers with timely information and offer them all possible amenities.
