A R DAS
The Ministry of Defence has given the green light to a 250 MW solar power project with an integrated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Sitapur (Ex Cantonment), Uttar Pradesh. Spread across nearly 850 acres of unused defence land, this will be the first of its kind renewable energy initiative undertaken by the Defence Ministry.
Key Highlights
- Energy Security: The project will strengthen long term energy independence for defence establishments.
- Cost Savings: By reducing reliance on conventional grid power, it is expected to save significant government expenditure over its lifecycle.
- Implementation: NTPC Limited will execute the project through a competitive bidding process to ensure optimal pricing.
- Collaboration: The initiative will be carried out in close coordination with the Integrated HQ of MoD (Army) and the Directorate General Defence Estates (DGDE).
Strategic Importance
This solar plus storage project is set to become one of India’s most significant renewable energy ventures on defence land. It will serve as a benchmark for future solar and storage projects in the defence sector, combining sustainability with operational efficiency.
Once completed, the Sitapur Solar Power Project will not only reduce carbon footprint but also stand as a symbol of India’s commitment to clean energy and self reliance in defence infrastructure.
