In a move aimed at strengthening domestic defence manufacturing and enhancing battlefield capabilities, the Ministry of Defence has signed contracts worth approximately ₹975 crore for the procurement of TRAWL assemblies for T-72 and T-90 tanks.
The contracts have been awarded to Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) and Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics (India) Pvt. Limited, in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi.
According to the Ministry, the TRAWL assemblies are critical systems designed to significantly enhance the Indian Army’s minefield breaching capabilities. These systems enable the creation of safe mobility corridors for armoured vehicles by neutralising anti-tank mines, thereby improving operational efficiency in combat zones.
From an industry perspective, the procurement underscores the government’s continued push towards indigenisation under the broader “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative. The project is expected to provide a substantial boost to the domestic defence ecosystem, particularly by generating demand across the MSME sector involved in component manufacturing and supply chains.
Officials highlighted that beyond strengthening military preparedness, the contracts are likely to create both direct and indirect employment opportunities, reinforcing the role of defence procurement as a driver of industrial growth and technological capability in India.
