The death toll in Indore-Patna Express train accident near Kanpur has risen to 145, Chief Medical officer of Kanpur Dehat district Dr Anita Singh told media, adding that 145 dead bodies have been received for postmortem.

Nearly 200 passengers have also suffered injury and have been admitted in various hospitals at Kanpur Dehat and other places. The rescue and removal of damaged coaches is underway. Trains on this routes have been diverted and others have been cancelled. It is hoped that track will be restored by tomorrow.

The Indore-Patna express 19321 train was derailed yesterday in wee hours at Pukhrayan railway station in Kanpur Dehat district. A high level inquiry has already been set up in the accident. Railway and state governments have announced financial assistance to the kin of deceased.

NDRF and rail departments are working in full swing to normalize the situation.So far 120 bodies have been identified and handed over to their relatives. The administration has arranged cold stores to store the unclaimed bodies so that these may not be spoiled. CMO district Dr Anita Singh told that most of the victims belong to Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. CMO Kanpur Nagar district Ramayan Prasad Yadav said that at present 83 injured are under treatment at Kanpur Dehat and Kanpur Nagar districts hospitals and rest are discharged.
