A delegation of senior Congress leaders met Home Minister Rajnath Singh at his residence today to demand adequate security for Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi. The party’s Puducherry unit had reported that it had received death threats to Mr Gandhi.
Later talking to media persons, senior Congress leader Anand Sharma said the Home Minister has assured prompt action and security enhancement. He said the Minister also assured that the agencies of Centre and State, Special Protection Group, SPG will be alert to the threat that has been received.
Mr Sharma also raised the issue of proposal to shift en mass about 400 officers of SPG, to bring in new people. He said it is a matter of concern as to why such a proposal has come up as SPGs require rigorous training.
