Iqbal Kaskar, the brothe
r of fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim and two others arrested by Thane Anti-Extortion Cell have been sent to police custody for eight days by Thane court. Iqbal was arrested last night in connection with an investigation into an extortion case. Two other accused had been arrested earlier.
Talking to media, Thane police commissioner Parambir Singh informed that Iqbal was arrested from his sister Haseena Parkar’s residence.
“Whether Dawood Ibrahim had an indirect or a direct involvement in this extortion racket run by Iqbal Kaskar will be probed,” he said.
Police said, Iqbal had been threatening builders on behalf of Dawood Ibrahim and was demanding huge extortion money. Many of these builders who are from Thane, Ulhasnagar, Dombivli had allegedly paid huge sums of extortion money to Iqbal.
Iqbal Kaskar used to issue threats in the name of his brother, Dawood Ibrahim, the police said today.
The police are also investigating if there is involvement of any politicians or corporators in the extortion rackets. Besides Kaskar, two others, namely Israr All Jamil Sayyad and Mumtaz Eizaz Shaikh, were also arrested.
The builder was under huge debt post demonetisation and hence, decided to reach out to the police for help.
