The Cyclone Fani, formed in south-east Bay of Bengal and adjoining Indian Ocean, is set to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm. It is expected to further intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm by tomorrow. It is currently moving in a north-west direction.
The latest weather bulletin issued by Indian Meteorology Department says it was found laying centred at 1110 kilometres south-east of Chennai and 1300 km away from Machilipattinam in the wee hours today.
It has been travelling at a speed of 15 kilometres per hour in the last six hours. It is set to move in a North West direction till Tuesday, and thereafter re curve northeastwards.
Many places in Kerala are expected to get light to moderate rain on Monday and Tuesday, with heavy rainfall at a few places.
North coastal Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh are set to get light to moderate rain at a few places on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Cyclone Fani is set to gain more steam and become a severe cyclonic storm this afternoon.
It is currently in the south-east Bay of Bengal, The cyclone is moving in a north-west direction.
The IMD said it will travel in the same direction till Tuesday after which it recurves to proceed in the northeast direction. It was lying centred at 1050 kilometres south-east of Chennai.
The weather system has maintained a speed of 15 kilometres per hour in the last six hours. Weather experts say prevailing heat conditions are favourable for Cyclone Fani to intensify further into a very severe cyclonic storm by tomorrow.
The sea conditions would be ranging from very rough to phenomenal, as categorized by the IMD. Fishermen have been asked not to venture into the sea.
