Curfew continues at Agomoni police station area in Dhubri district of Assam for the second day today. Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Nazrul Islam told media that situation is under control but curfew is on as a precautionary measure.

Curfew was imposed yesterday as situation became tense following the recovery of an objectionable thing near a religious place. He said that security forces have been deployed at National Highway to ensure movement of vehicles.

Several persons have been detained so far and additional security forces are also deployed at Agomoni and nearby areas . District administration will hold a peace meeting today.

The police and CRPF resorted to lathicharge and firing in the air to disperse the mob, the officials said.

Curfew was imposed from 1 pm today till further orders as the situation deteriorated in the Kalowal Bazar area under the police station limits.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC were also imposed in the entire district from today until further orders, Additional District Magistrate Dr Debajit Khanikar said.

Meanwhile, the Dhubri district unit of the Bajrang Dal has demanded an inquiry into last night’s incident and identification of the forces responsible for it.
