North Zone Intervarsity Tournament begins at AMU

Aligarh Muslim University, Vice-Chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor has said that cricket has been a distinctive feature of AMU since the times of MAO College and its Cricket Club has been nursery of several outstanding cricket players.
Inaugurating the North Zone Intervarsity Cricket tournament at the Willingdon Pavillion of AMU, Prof Mansoor said Cricket has come a long way from being just another sport.

As many as 75 teams are participating from across the North India in the tournament which will be played till December 4.
The Club has given this country many sports legends likes of Lala Amarnath and the clubs Willingdon pavilion has been a witness to many great players and many more brilliant players will be added to Indian team who will demonstrate their potential on this ground, added Prof Tariq.
The chief guest, Commissioner of Aligarh Commissionary, Mr Ajay Deep (IAS) said he takes pride to be the Commissioner of Aligarh which owns a towering Aligarh Muslim University, a symbol of the composite culture of India. It has helped in nation-building and its Willingdon Pavillion closely resembles with the exuberance of Lords cricket ground.
The university students should always remember to carry forward the vision of Sir Syed who harped on an overall development of AMU students, he added.
In his welcome address, secretary of the Games Committee, Prof S Amjad A Rizvi thanked university administration for providing all the help and logistic support for organisning the tournament.
Cricket coach Dr Faisal Sherwani proposed a vote of thanks.
Participating teams were introduced with dignitaries present at the inaugural function. The ceremony was attended by Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Akhtar Haseeb and other officials of participating universities including managers and coaches.
