The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Friday demanded an independent judicial probe and the registration of FIRs against senior functionaries of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, labeling the current investigation into the Ayodhya Ram Temple embezzlement case a “cover-up masquerading as accountability.”
In a statement issued by its National Secretariat, the CPI asserted that the recent FIR based on Special Investigation Team (SIT) findings is just the “tip of the iceberg” and that the resignations of senior trust members Champat Rai and Anil Mishra are entirely insufficient. Criticizing the current probe structure, the party argued that an SIT reporting to the Ayodhya District Magistrate—who serves as an ex-officio member of the Trust—is inherently compromised and cannot inspire public confidence.
The CPI highlighted emerging reports of devotees donating massive quantities of gold, silver, and cash without being issued receipts, suggesting the actual scale of the scam is far larger than currently revealed. Insisting that the faith and offerings of millions cannot be exploited with impunity, the party stated that legal action must extend beyond junior officials to include the senior RSS, BJP, and VHP leadership, and reiterated its demand to transfer the entire investigation to an independent judicial body.
