Congress today demanded an apology from the Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Narendra Modi and punitive action against BJP candidate from Bhopal Pragya Thakur for calling Nathu Ram Godse a true patriot.
Talking to media in New Delhi, party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said this is an insult to the Gandhian way of life that lives in the soul of the country. He said Pragya Thakur’s statement is also an attack on Gandhian ideology.
Mr Surjewala said, Godse’s mindset was against those who had participated in the freedom movement and it is unfortunate that BJP is eulogising him.

BJP has asked its Lok Sabha candidate Pragya Singh Thakur to tender a public apology for her controversial remarks terming Nathuram Godse as a patriot. Talking to media in New Delhi today, party spokesperson G V L Narasimha Rao condemned her remarks saying the BJP completely disagree with her.
He said the party will seek clarification from Pragya Thakur that why did she make such a statement. Pragya Singh Thakur is the BJP candidate from Bhopal Lok Sabha seat.
Nathuram Godse was Deshbhakt (patriot) says Sadhvi Pragya
Bhopal BJP candidate Sadhvi Pragya Thakur today stirred new controversy calling Nathuram Godse ” the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi ” a “deshbhakt” (patriot) and will remain so forever. Pragya was reacting to Kamal Haasan’s recent comment that the first terrorist in India was a Hindu, naming Godse.
Pragya, campaigning in Agar Malwa district of Madhya Pradesh, told reporters: “Nathuram Godse was a deshbhakt, is a deshbhakt and will always remain a deshbhakt, and people calling him a terrorist should instead look within.” “Such people will be given a befitting reply in these elections,” she remarked.
