The opposition Congress today gave a 12 hour bandh call protesting the mismanagement in the Nava kalbar rituals of the Lords at Sri Jaganath temple in Puri in Odisha. Several trains were detained by the protesters at different stations while government and private buses also did not ply throughout the state. Schools, colleges, business establishments, offices remained closed.
There are reports of violence from different places. The Congress has been demanding resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and law Minister Arun Sahu and judicial inquiry into the mismanagement of the rituals. Several Congress leaders including AICC spokesman Bhakt Charan Das, state President Prasad Harichandan have been arrested by the police while leading a protest rally.
