The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) on Wednesday announced its decision to extend full support to the Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) for forming the next government in the state, following a formal request by TVK president C. Vijay.
In a statement, the TNCC said the people of Tamil Nadu, particularly the youth, have delivered a decisive mandate in favour of a secular, progressive and welfare-oriented government rooted in constitutional values. It added that the verdict reflects strong public support for a government led by Vijay.
Affirming its ideological position, the Congress said it remains committed to secular and inclusive politics and considers it its constitutional responsibility to respect the people’s mandate. Accordingly, both the TNCC and the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) have agreed to back the TVK in government formation.
However, the party clarified that its support would be conditional on TVK not aligning with any “communal forces” that do not adhere to the principles of the Constitution.
The statement further noted that the proposed alliance aims to revive the legacy of former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj, while upholding the social justice ideals of Periyar E.V. Ramasamy and the constitutional vision of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
The Congress also indicated that the partnership with TVK would extend beyond government formation to future electoral contests, including local body elections and parliamentary polls.
Both Vijay and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi have reportedly committed to honouring the public mandate and working towards fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Tamil Nadu, especially its youth.
