NEW DELHI: The Congress and the left parties on Tuesday attacked the BJP for showing love for Yaddyurappa and continuing him as the Karnataka Chief Minister despite his alleged involvement in the land scam.
The Congress spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan told reporters that the double standards of the BJP on the issue of corruption stand exposed as the tainted Karnataka Chief Minister continues and the leadership is silent on the issue. Expressing similar views the CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat said, the fact that the BJP has not sought the resignation of Yaddyurappa raises a very fundamental question.
Meanwhile, there is a possibility of BJP not asking Yaddyurappa to step down in the near future. Top party sources told AIR that this is because of the forthcoming Panchayat polls in the State and the fact that no strictures have been passed against Yaddyurappa by any court or any other agency. The party sources however did not completely rule out the change in the leadership in the State and maintained that the party is keeping all options open. The opposition in Karnataka has been demanding the resignation of the Yeddyurappa for the land scam in which he allotted land to his own family members.
