Adoni is a municipality headquarters and commercial town in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. It is 300 km from Hyderabad.

Following reports that  Adoni like violence could take place in other parts of the state, the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, on Tuesday ordered the deployment of additional forces at Adoni and asked the DGP, Mr V. Dinesh Reddy, to closely monitor the situation and take stern action against people responsible for the violence. He wanted police personnel to be put on high alert at other places as well.

The DGP held a video-conference with the police officials concerned and cautioned them against a repeat of Adoni violence in other places.

2 persons have been reportedly killed and dozens injured in communal clashes that erupted at Adoni town of Kurnool district on Monday during Ganesh procession. District SP Mr. Shiva Prasad and 20 policemen were also among the injured.

On Tuesday, mobs went on a looting spree targeting shops and residences, ignoring police order. The police had to open fire in the air. Three people, identified as Habid, Hussain and Nagi Reddy, as well as another unidentified person were injured in knife attacks. Another 30 were injured in stone pelting. The riots also spread to the Methur mosque area, Avudoodavanka, Boyagiri, Nijamuddin Colony, Chwkimatam and Kajipura.

According to the reports Police hurled tear gas shells to control the situation but the situation could not come under control following which police had imposed curfew in Adoni.

Local people said that when the Ganesh procession was passing near Madina masjid at Qazipura in full swing with music and dancing at the time of Zohr prayers on which Muslims objected and asked to lower the voice of music. But the miscreants in the procession started pelting stones and throwing gulaal on the mosque.

They even entered into the mosque and damaged the mosque. The miscreants also entered into a Muslim house and blasted a gas cylinder and put 10 Lorries of minority community to flames.

When a correspondent of local daily Siasat,  Sirajuddin reached there for coverage miscreants attacked him too and set his motorcycle and camera ablaze.

Imam of Adoni town Mr. Ali Hashmi said that the violence was preplanned.

Meanwhile, a delegation of the Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen, led by the party floor leader, Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi, met the Chief Minister and urged immediate action.
