Police in Bangladesh today launched a seven-day clampdown against militants throughout the country.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) A K M Shahidul Hoque took the decision at a meeting at the police headquarters.
The meeting gave emphasis on updating the list of militants across the country, increasing surveillance over different religious institutions, making the activities of word community police more effective, increasing surveillance over tenants and visitors in the city, providing security to foreigners, among others.
The police chief also gave several directions on do’s and don’ts to his men following the barbaric murder of the wife of a distinguished police official.
Many top cops including additional IGP Fatema Begum, additional IGP (CID) Sheikh Hemayet Hossain, additional IGP (railway range) Md Abul Kashem, DMP commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Miah, all the commissioners, range DIG’s were present at the three and a half hour long meeting.
Shahidul Hoque at the meeting emphasized on campaign against militants and terrorists and called for utilizing community police members to collect information about those criminals.
Terming the murder of Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, wife of Superintendent of Police Babul Akter, as barbaric and sad, the IGP asked all the police officials to work to bring the culprits involved in the incident to justice quickly.
