In a big achievement against Maoists in Chhattisgarh, security forces today gunned down at least 6 armed insurgents in Dantewada district. Police sources said, the District Reserve Group, DRG, team was on a search operation in Burgum- Toyapara hills near Aranpur of southern Bastar region when the maoists fired upon them this afternoon. The team responded swiftly and has succeeded in killing at least 6 maoists. Along with the bodies, 3 firearms have also been recovered from the spot.
According to official reports two DRG Jawans including an ASI have sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment. The encounter was still going on when the reports last came in, and reinforcements have been sent to the site. Today’s success in anti-maoist operations comes as a huge morale booster for security forces in the aftermath of last Saturday’s Sukma naxal attack, where CRPF had lost 12 jawans.
