Political parties in Tamil Nadu reacted to today Supreme Court order staying Centre’s notification allowing bull taming sport Jallikattu during the Pongal festival in the state. Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has demanded that the Centre should promulgate an ordinance to conduct the Jallikattu.
In a letter to the Prime Minister today, she has said, following the Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change notification dated 7th of this month, detailed circulars have been issued to various district collectors in the state to make arrangements facilitating the bull taming sport Jallikattu. She has mentioned in the letter that the sentiments of the people who have a deep attachment with the traditional game need to be respected. The DMK treasurer MK Stalin has said the Centre should resort to legal remedies to clear the hurdles in conducting Jallikattu and bull race.
The DMDK leader Vijayakant has said the ban has disappointed the people. In a statement he has said the AIADMK Government has all along been reluctant to take action for resuming the game. Many other parties and associations have also opposed the ban and have sought action from the Centre and the State to revive Jallikattu.
