The CBI today searched the residence of NDTV founder Prannoy Roy in New Delhi and three other locations for allegedly causing losses to a private bank.
CBI sources said the agency has registered a case against Roy, his wife Radhika and RRPR Holdings for allegedly causing losses of 48 crore rupees to ICICI Bank.
The agency is conducting searches at four places in the national capital and Dehradun.
The NDTV has termed the move as a witch-hunt based on false accusations.
In a statement, it said the channel will not succumb to these attempts to undermine democracy and free speech in India.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu said law will take its own course in the matter of the CBI raids at NDTV founder Prannoy Roy’s residence.
Talking to media in New Delhi, Mr Naidu said there is no witch hunting at all. He said NDA government does not believe in interfering. He said the CBI must have some information to have taken steps.
