The Central Bureau of Investigation team has arrested a Goods and Serices Tax Commissioner, Sansar Chand from Kanpur and eight others for allegedly taking bribe.
Chand is a 1986-batch Indian Revenue Service officer posted in Kanpur as the Commissioner.
According to agency sources, Commissioner Sansar Chand, two superintendents of the department, one personal staff and five private people were nabbed by the CBI in a late-night operation spread across Kanpur and Delhi.
The sources said, it is alleged that the higher official was a habitual offender, taking bribes from businessmen on monthly and weekly basis and he was nabbed during one such collection of 1.5 lakh rupees last night. Commissioner’s wife has also been named in the FIR, but has not been arrested. The man who allegedly gave the bribe has also been taken into custody, the sources said.
