Campaigning for the second phase of polls has been intensified. Polling will be held on April 11in 61 seats in Lower and Central Assam. Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi campaigned at Sarukhetri in Barpeta district.
On the other hand, state BJP President Sarbanand Sonowal, senior leader Himanta Biswa Sarma along with Asom Gana Parishad’s President Atul Bora is attending rallies in Lower Assam. During election rallies , Mr. Sonowal alleged that the Congress government led by Tarun Gogoi has failed to deliver during last 15 years.
Addressing an election meeting at Dudhnoi, Himanta Biswa appealed voters to exercise their franchise for the survival of the indigenous people of Assam. Senior Congress leader and state Agriculture minister Rockybul Hussein alleged that Narendra Modi government has failed to fulfill the aspirations of people of Assam. Left parties, AIUDF, Bodoland People’s Front and Liberal Democratic Party among others are also campaigning to woo voters. A total of 525 candidates are in the fray in this phase.
