The Calcutta High Court today disposed of the petition filed by the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) seeking preservation of confidential political data allegedly seized by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) during its January 8 raids at the offices and residence of I-PAC and Prateek Jain.
The ED informed the court that no documents or data had been taken from I-PAC’s premises. Following this submission, Justice Shubhra Ghosh dismissed the plea filed by the Trinamool Congress. The party had earlier alleged that the ED, under the pretext of investigating the coal corruption case, had removed crucial political documents related to the upcoming state assembly elections from I-PAC’s computers.
During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju strongly argued that the ED had not seized any material, further claiming that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself had taken possession of the documents in question. After hearing both sides, the court ruled against the Trinamool’s petition.
Meanwhile, the ED has also approached the Supreme Court with similar demands, including a request for a CBI investigation. In view of this, Justice Ghosh adjourned the ED’s petition in the Calcutta High Court, ordering that proceedings remain suspended until the Supreme Court delivers its ruling.
