The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill 2019 will be introduced in the upcoming budget session of Parliament. It will replace the Muslim women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) 2nd ordinance 2019.
The Union Cabinet approved the Bill today. Briefing media, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said, the bill will ensure gender equality and will empower the Muslim women.
The Bill proposes to declare the practice of instant Triple Talaq as void and illegal. It also makes an offence punishable with imprisonment upto 3 years and fine.
It will also provide for payment of subsistence allowance to married muslim women and dependent children. The bill further provides for hearing the married muslim woman upon whom Talaq is pronounced, before the accused is released on bail by the magistrate.
