Describing the Union Budget 2026–27 as futuristic, Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh on Sunday said the budget lays down a clear roadmap for India’s development over the next quarter of a century.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Dr Singh said the proposed allocation of ₹10,000 crore for Bio Pharma Shakti marks a major push towards strengthening India’s bio-manufacturing and bio-pharma ecosystem. He noted that the initiative will enhance domestic capabilities, reduce import dependence and position India as a global hub for advanced bio-manufacturing.

Highlighting the social impact of the budget, the minister said it also brings significant relief for the middle class, particularly through steps aimed at improving the affordability of treatment for critical illnesses such as cancer. These measures, he added, reflect the government’s focus on inclusive growth alongside technological advancement.

Dr Singh further pointed out that the extension of customs duty exemptions on the import of key components for nuclear power plants till 2035 will provide long-term policy certainty to investors. This move, he said, is expected to encourage private participation and ensure the availability of high-quality infrastructure in the nuclear energy sector.

Emphasising the reform-oriented nature of the budget, the minister said it is anchored in structural changes supported by cutting-edge technology and artificial intelligence. He added that the allocation of ₹20,000 crore for carbon capture initiatives will play a crucial role in addressing environmental challenges and supporting India’s transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable economy.

Overall, Dr Singh said, the Union Budget 2026–27 balances growth, innovation and sustainability, while keeping long-term national priorities firmly in focus.
