The Bahujan Samaj Party and Congress today demanded immediate the sacking of Union Minister of State for External Affairs Gen VK Singh over his alleged anti- Dalit remarks in wake of Faridabad Dalit burning incident.

Addressing a press conference in Lucknow today, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader and former Uttar Pradesh chief Minister Mayawati termed the statement of Gen Singh as very shameful and insulting towards Dalits.

She further said that upon taking cognizance of such obnoxious remarks, PM Modi himself should sack the minister. She demanded that the officers of Haryana government, due to whose negligence such brutal act could happen, must be sent to jail. She blamed both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress, besides other political outfits for perpetrating large scale atrocities on Dalits across the country.

With reference to the recent burning to death of two children in a village in the Ballabhgarh area of Haryana earlier this week, and also the murder of a 15-year-old Dalit boy in Gohana area of the same state allegedly by police, Mayawati said that Dalits have always been exploited and insulted at all levels on a large scale, whether it is by the regimes of the Congress, the BJP and other opposition parties, whether it is at the Centre or in the states.

On the other hand, Congress today held BJP and its affiliates responsible for the anti-dalit sentiments in the country. Briefing media in New Delhi this afternoon, party spokesperson Kumari Selja alleged that Haryana government failed to take adequate measures to stop incidents against the Dalit family in Ballabgarh, Faridabad.

Mr Selja said, the Prime Minister should come forward and make his government’s stand clear on the protection of dalits. Criticising the Union Minister Gen. V K Singh’s remarks against Dalits, she demanded his sacking from the Cabinet.
