The first all-women mountaineering team of the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully scaled Mount Everest on Thursday. The climbers sang the national song Vande Mataram atop the world’s highest peak.
The women mountaineering team successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest (8,848.86 metres) on May 21 at 8 a.m.
The BSF women’s mountaineering team comprised Constable Kausar Fatima from Ladakh, Constable Munmun Ghosh from West Bengal, Constable Rebecca Singh from Uttarakhand, and Constable Tsering Chorol from Kargil.
Coming from diverse backgrounds, these BSF mountaineers reflected the true spirit of India’s unity in diversity and demonstrated exceptional determination, endurance, and courage under extreme high-altitude conditions.
Women personnel of the BSF are guarding the nation’s borders shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts.
BSF Director General Praveen Kumar congratulated the summit team on behalf of the entire force and the nation through a radio link communication.
The expedition was organised as part of the BSF’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the national song Vande Mataram.
The expedition was flagged off from New Delhi on April 6, 2026, by BSF Director General Praveen Kumar. As part of the mission, the BSF men’s mountaineering team will also attempt to scale Mount Lhotse (8,516 metres) within the next two to three days.
