Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian today said implementing GST and responding quickly to transitional challenges are among the major achievements of the government in the past year. Giving highlights of the Economic Survey, Mr Subramanian in a series of tweets said, there are robust and broad-based signs of revival in economic activity.
He said there has been an increase in new tax filers of about 18 lakh and some boost to individual income tax collections post-demonetization and GST. The Chief Economic Adviser listed providing support to agriculture, stabilizing GST, privatising Air-India among the policy agenda for the coming year.
Later addressing media, Mr Subramanian said, the economy is picking up quite nicely and robustly. He said, exports driving growth and temporary factors are receding. He said, factors to be watched are rising oil prices and sharp corrections of stock prices.
