The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has welcomed the latest round of Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms introduced by the Finance Ministry, describing them as a major step towards a common man–oriented tax regime.
According to BMS, the traditional indirect tax structure placed a heavier burden on citizens’ everyday needs. The newly announced two-rate GST system seeks to reverse that trend by lowering taxes on essential goods and labour-intensive industries, while placing higher levies on luxury items consumed by high-income groups.
BMS highlighted that the reforms bring relief in key sectors including cement, food items, healthcare products and insurance, educational materials, agricultural machinery, automobiles, and electronic appliances—all of which directly affect the middle and lower-income households.
The organization urged manufacturers, insurers, and other stakeholders to ensure that the benefits of reduced taxation are passed on to consumers by cutting prices of daily-use products.
