BJP wins two Rajya Sabha in Gujarat

BJP candidates External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jayshankar and Jugalji Thakor won the by-polls of two seats of Rajya Sabha in Gujarat. They defeated Congress Candidates former Minister Chandrikaben Chudasama and Gaurav Pandya. Process of counting of votes was delayed for few hours following some objections raised by Congress party before the Election Commission.

Meanwhile, in a major political development two Congress MLAs Alpesh Thakor and Dhavalsinh Zala resigned from the State Assembly. Both the MLAs have submitted their resignation to the Speaker after casting their votes.

Talking to media persons, Alpesh Thakor said that they have voted for BJP candidates in Rajya Sabha by-polls. At the other end, NCP MLA Kandhal Jadeja and Bharatiya Tribal Party MLA Chhotubhai Vasava also voted for BJP. Congress claimed that their votes remained intact.
