The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to set a target of returning to power in Bihar under the leadership of National Democratic Alliance partner Nitish Kumar with a two third majority in the State Assembly.

Sources stated that the target for the alliance was set by BJP national president JP Nadda at a meeting of party MPs from the state and senior leaders held today.
It is understood that the BJP chief has made it clear to party leaders that the NDA would be going into the contest under the leadership of chief minister Nitish Kumar and would project his clean image and prime minister Narendra Modi’s welfare measures for the masses as electoral planks.
NDA constituents, the JD(U), LJP and BJP are soon likely to finalise the ticket distribution for the forthcoming Assembly polls in the state.

Sources stated that meeting with allies regarding the ticket finalisation are currently taking place and a final announcement is expected anytime.
Assembly elections in Bihar are due in October-November and the tenure of the current Assembly is scheduled to end on November 29.

However, the Election Commission has not yet taken a final call on poll dates in Bihar due to coronavirus pandemic and has sought suggestions from political parties.

Assembly tenure of Bihar is scheduled to end on November 29. The electoral process has to be completed by November 28 to avoid a constitutional crisis. Bihar state legislature has 243 Assembly constituencies.

Congress has 27 MLAs in Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) 80, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) 54, and Janata Dal-United (JDU) 71 in the current Legislative Assembly.
