BJP nominee Murjibhai Patel has filed the nomination papers for the bypoll to the Andheri East Assembly Seat in Mumbai. Eknath Shinde-led political outfit Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena has decided to support Patel in this bypoll.
After the revolt staged by Eknath Shinde and others in late June this year against the Shiv Sena leadership and subsequent vertical split of the party, this is the first major election battle between the Uddhav Thackeray- led party and the alliance of BJP and Shinde’s political outfit.
Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (Shiv Sena) has fielded Rutuja Latke, the widow of Ramesh Latke, who died in May this year. Latke was the sitting Sena MLA from the Andheri East seat who died of heart attack in Dubai because of which the by-election has been necessitated.
Meanwhile, after days of rambling, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation accepted the resignation of Rutuja Latke who was working as a clerk in the civic body. Ms. Latke had filed a petition in the Bombay High Court on 12th of this month. Acting on the directions of the Bombay High Court, the BMC today issued the letter of acceptance of her resignation.
Rutuja Latke is also expected to file her nomination papers today
