BJP has demanded apology from senior Congress leaders Sonia and Rahul Gandhi following David Headley’s revelation that Ishrat Jahan, killed in an alleged fake encounter in 2004 in Gujarat was a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist. The party said Congress had hatched a conspiracy by questioning the incident to tarnish the image of the BJP and the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Briefing media in New Delhi today, party Secretary Shrikant Sharma said the police had made an encounter of Ishrat Jahan and other terrorists as they were planning to kill Mr. Modi and attack religious places in the state. But previous UPA regime questioned the action and politicized it instead of appreciating the police for killing them. Mr. Sharma said it was a hate conspiracy against the BJP leaders and the Headley’s claim has exposed the people who were objecting to the encounter.
Mr. Sharma said several agencies and officers had also termed Ishrat Jahan as a terrorist but the UPA government ignored the fact and misused investigative agencies to link Mr. Modi and BJP with the episode.
