Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today announced that there would be ban on sale of liquor in state from April 1st of the next year. Speaking at a function in Patna Mr. Kumar said this would be effective from next financial year. He admitted addiction of booze is ruining life of poor people in rural areas especially women and children.

The Chief Minister said he stands by his promise to ban the sale of liquor which was made during assembly elections in the state. Mr. Kumar said Excise department is working on new liquor policy. In Bihar sale of liquor is a major source of revenue collection as the state earns more than Rs 3000 crore from it annually.
